Seriously, this guy’s gallery is fantastic.
I’m refocusing my blog here. I let the original purpose of it fall by the wayside and have lost my focus on art. My art AND the art of others (as well as the written word). Maybe in finding my focus again, I’ll find my inspiration again.
I love the ‘Give Captain America A Boyfriend” campaign. I’m all for it. However, I do have a couple ‘tiny’ problems with it. I have a problem with the world deciding a man is gay or is romantically in love with another man when they are shown to care about them, show any kind of physical affection, show any kind of concern for them, I could go on. I have a problem with the fact the media has conditioned us to believe that men can not love and respect each other as friends, that mutual love and respect ONLY comes from romantic feelings, and men can not do that unless they are romantically involved.
I have a problem with the fetishization of these male/male romantic relationships, all the while going on about ‘representation’. When representation is nothing more than wish fulfillment and stereotyping, it’s not representation. When it’s done with love and care, it is a beautiful thing.
Some video games have come far in the realm of representation of non-heterosexual characters. They’ve made them real, believable, living, breathing human beings that aren’t just there for wish fulfillment or to be somebody’s fetish.
Movie world, take note. If you do give Captain America a boyfriend (and why SHOULDN’T you?), please do it with love and respect. Please do it not simply because people are demanding it to fulfill some fantasy they have of Steve and Bucky (or whoever) fucking, but because it’s a natural progression of an already caring relationship. Or the beginning of a new and beautiful relationship.
Do it because representation IS important but not at the expense of the dignity of the millions of non-hetero people in this world and not to fulfill someone’s sexual fantasy.
I understand that those of the Dragon Age fandom are concerned for Greg Ellis, but please.
Refrain from making any references to Cullen.
Greg Ellis/Jonny Rees is a real man with a real mental disorder who is in a ton of trouble if he’s not found soon.
He’s a man with two sons that need their dad to come home.
He’s a man that needs mental help.So please, I understand that you ARE worried for him.
But he is not Cullen and this is not a game.
This.
